I use mostly #2 Mustad Fly hooks, for they are excellent in design and performance.
truly the easiest way to tie a spoon fly is from the pre-cut spoon fly pattern. all patterns are for #2 34007 mustad hooks. all you do is to tie the tail, add flash, peel off the spoon pattern, and tie on using the front and rear tabs on the pattern, that easy. they come in several different colors. the color shown is "peach rain" and has a pinkish tent. all spoon fly patterns already have the acetate attached to the mylar. each strip of patterns contains 12 pre-cut spoons. colors are: peach rain - chartreuse - red - copper circles - green bubbles - pink sparkle - orange sparkle - purple sparkles - silver plaid - white sparkles. here is a step by step web page that will help. click on the hook shape photo and you can print it out and use it as a template. http://www.nwmangum.com/spoonfly here is a testimony from freshwater in wi. hi connie, just had to let you know that the spoon fly works great in fresh water. tied up a variety of flies (black, chartreuse and pink) and gave them a try today. on the first cast with the chartreuse, a northern pike ripped it off so fast didnt know what hit. switched to the redfish special and the next 3 casts produced a 17, 19 ½ and 21" smallmouth bass. thereafter, almost every other cast had a hit or hook-up. this is an area that produces well for a few weeks in may, but nothing like that. the spin fishermen were in awe at the success and size. needless to say, i'm a believer and will keep on trying them elsewhere. can't wait to get back down to tybee island this winter and hit the cuts for trout, reds and flounder. will keep you posted on my success. steve sister bay, wi
the new flat face is a neat fly for the flats. lots and lots of movement. the face of the fly lays back to the shank and pulse's as you strip it in. out and in action, plus it pushes a lot of water. what a combination for reds and trout. all kinds of color combinations. depends on water color.

it seems like the croaker has been a favorite bait for large fish like the speckled trout and redfish. this fly has large bead chain eyes to get it down fast, and the forked tail is a great give away for a real baitfish. the color combo and texturing are what make this fly complete.
this is familiar as rabbit/rabbit. it has won many tournaments throughout the country. lots of movement, great contrast. either with cone heads or not. lots of color combinations. if you need mullet, natural rabbit, if you need piggy perch, olive green, you get the idea. let me know what colors you will need.

this is the neetest fly. it floats, dives, wiggles, and looks just like a shrimp. short strips, each time the shrimp dives then returns to the top, just like a real shrimp. great for the flats. its almost dangerous. comes in white, yellow, tan, green, red, purple, pink, grey, aqua, brown
one of neetest flies i have made. the mud-fly is made with spun fox hair, stacked tight. for the first few cast, it floats, than the bead chain takes over. the bait is great for redfish, trout, flounder, but due to the baitfish shape, it can be used for a wide varitey of fish, incuding freshwater. call for colors available.

these expoy shrimp are so real looking that one of my customers said, "if you put this fly in a bucket of real shrimp, you would loose it". also "fly of the month" featured in fly fishing america march issue 03, and chosen as "1 of 5 great saltwater fly patterns in america 04" by fly fish america.
